As the newly appointed Digital Officer of the ‘Coming in from the Cold’ project, I am excited to be championing the representation of BAME communities within archive collections. I have had a busy first few weeks attending meetings with the Heritage Lottery Fund, spreading the word about CIFTC at community heritage events, and most importantly getting to know the team a little better.
My role involves working alongside community groups to develop interactive displays within Archives+ digital exhibition space. As part of this role, I will be digitising archive material collected during the project to curate within digital exhibitions. As well as this, I will be contributing to the development of social media and blogging channels, so watch this space!
As a previous Skills for the Future archives trainee, I look forward to transferring knowledge and experience learnt throughout my traineeship at Archives+ into my role. I hope that my non-traditional journey into archives via journalism is testament to the value of paid opportunities into the sector, especially for those coming from diverse backgrounds. I am also working towards an MA in Art Gallery and Museum studies at the University of Manchester, part-time. I look forward to keeping you updated with the progress of CIFTC and my future activities as part of the project team.
