Leading up to our Community History Showcase on 27 July 2017, we feature the Bolton Asian Migration, and their project ‘We Were There’ led by The Sunnyside Club. It is a “local history project that will record the social, recreational and sporting lives of the first-generation Asian community in Bolton from the late 1950s to the 1980s alongside their memories of life before they settled here.“
The project was previously featured in an article by The Bolton News, which mentions how The Sunnyside Club gained support from the Heritage Lottery Fund to run community-based activities and events. However, it is a project that needs community efforts to raise awareness of its Asian members.
If you have material that reflect the life of the first-generation Asian community from Bolton, be sure to contribute to the project. See the poster below for more information, and follow Bolton Asian Migration on social media for updates.

If you are interested in being a part of our Community History Showcase like Bolton Asian Migration, highlighting your local history project, please let us know by 19 July 2017. Email Jennifer.Vickers@manchester.ac.uk or Jacqueline.Ould@manchester.ac.uk.
